What It Means
The Conjunction (0°) forms when two planets occupy the same degree in the chart — within an 8° orb. It is classified as neutral rather than hard or soft, because its nature depends entirely on the planets involved. Conjunctions represent fusion and intensification: the two planetary energies blend so completely that they become a single, amplified force.
In the Natal Chart
A natal Conjunction makes the two planets inseparable in lived experience. A Sun-Moon conjunction creates someone whose conscious identity and emotional needs operate as a unified system — what the person wants and what they feel tend to align. A Mars-Saturn conjunction fuses drive with discipline (or drive with obstruction) in a way that shapes almost every act of will. Conjunctions are among the most defining configurations in a chart.
Psychological Effect
The Conjunction is experienced as the complete merging of two planetary principles. When complementary planets conjoin — Sun and Jupiter, Venus and Moon — the combination amplifies strengths and creates natural confidence in that area. When planets with conflicting natures conjoin — Mars and Neptune, Saturn and Venus — the fusion creates confusion or tension requiring conscious navigation to disentangle.
Integration
Working with a natal Conjunction means understanding the combined entity the two planets form together — they cannot realistically be operated separately. The aim is not to balance them but to channel their merged energy consciously: expressing the full strength of the combination without being driven by its compulsions.
